DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide (sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, molecular weight approximately 848.8 Da) first isolated in 1977 from cerebral venous blood collected during sleep. Named for early reports of delta-wave (slow-wave) EEG activity in animal models, it has since been researched for its association with sleep architecture, the stress and HPA axis, thermoregulation, and antioxidant pathways.
